The Kaiapoi Jubilee.
DEALING WITH THE SURPLUS.
A meeting of the Kaiapoi Jubilee Committee was held on "Wednesday night, in the Council Chambers, to receive a statement of the receipts and expenditure in connection with the recent demonstration. There were present— The Mayor (in the chair) and Messrs Caverhill, H. Blackwell, G. Blackwe.ll, Parnham, Miller, J. W. Stack, Craig, A. Pearce, Oram, and Webster. The Hon Secretary, Mr G. J. Webster, read the balance-sheet, which showed a balance in hand of £2'/ 5s 9d. Tho Chairman said the Committee had every reason to be pleased with the satisfactory* stato of the balance-sheet, considering the wretched weather which prevailed on the day of the demonstration, Iv addition to tho funds, he had received a subscription of £1 Is from Mr S. Johnston. It had been suggested that the balance should be applied to the relief of the sufferers by tbe recent flood, who had lost bedding, clothes, and furniture. He thought that would be a good way to spend it. He might say that he had received some subscriptions for this object already, which he had applied as far as they would go. On the motion of Mr Oram, seconded by Mr Caverhill, the balance-sheet as read waß adopted. Mr Oram spoke in favour of the balance in hand being expended in relieving sufferers by floods, and moved — "That the following gentlemen b 8 appointed a Committee to distribute the Fame, viz., the Revs Stack, M'Gregor, and Fairclough, with the Mayor aud Mr Blackwell/* The motion was seconded pro forma, by the Rev J. W. Stack, bub after discussion it -was withdrawn, and it waa ultimately decided that the balance should be deposited in the Bank of New Zealand for twelve months. The meeting thon adjourned.
