After one break away the field was despatched to a straggling start, the colours of Faugh-a-Ballagh, Romeo, Linwood, and Chance being conspicuous in the van, and Master Guy being the last to move. All got safely over the first obstacle, with the exception of Sultan, who baulked persistently, and took no further part in the'race. At the double, Faugh-a-Ballagh was leading Romeo by half a dozen lengths, and Ben H., Linwood, and Chance were leading the rest, of which the last pair were King Arthur and Master Guy. Pansfh-a-Ball»gh increased his advantage as they turned into the straight, and was fully thirty lengths in front of Romeo as they jumped the double in front of the stand. There was no material change as they ran round the bend at Cutta', but opposite Ford's Moody improved his pace and ran into third place. At the first fence of the double, Mangahone, who seemed never to have fairly got on his legs, fell ; and at the next obstacle Chance, who was holding a good position and going well, also came down. Faugh-a-Ballagh was leading by fully a hundred yards as they passed the stand the second time, Moody and Romeo coming next, and Ben H., Orient, Bredonhill, Linwood and King Arthur following in the order named. Orient fell at Cutts' and j Romeo followed his example at the wallap- ! proaching Ford'a. Moody now began to draw upon the leader, but came down at the second fence in the double, and left Faugh-a-Ballagh to canter home the easiest of winnere by a couple of hundred yards. Ben H. was second over the last fence, with Bredonhill at his heels, but the latter showed most pace on the fiat, and secured the position by a length. Time — 9min fsec. At the second flight of hurdles Icenian fell, but was quickly remounted and went on in pursuit of the rest. At Ford's, Little Wonder ran off and jumped the rails, but was brought back to the course and repeated the performance ,at the next flight. Half a mile from home, Premier moved up to Matagowrie, and this pair now made an effort to get on terms with the leader, but Marmion always had a bit tbe best of it, and won comfortably by a couple of lengths, Matagowrie an indifferent third.
