MAGISTRATE'S COURT. CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. (Bafore R. Beetham, Esq., R.M., and R. Westenra, EEq.) Dbunkenness.— -James M'Lauchlan was fined 10s ; and a first offender was fined 03. Miscellaneous. — Two men for allowing; cattle to wander at large were fined 5s each. The A&lkged Foavl Poisoning — Tellefc v. Pike. — This case, which was adjourned last Thursday inorderto allowthe defendant to call witnesses for the purpose of proving an alibi, came on for further hearing this morning. It will be remembered that the defendant was charged with laying poison, _ and also by means of poison, ! destroying complainant's fowls. Mr Stringer called J. Hankins, who swore that the defendant arrived at hiß place at Riccarton about 10 a.m. on June 5. Knew j the date, because Klenderstein's horsea had i left witness' stables on the previous day. Witness could not remember the date, except by that occurrence. Mrs James said she remembered seeing Pike about a quarter past eight in the morning, on June 5, going over the Park road bridge in a cart. Did not see him return. The witness said she remembered the date because there was to bea chriateningthefollowing Sunday. I Annie Compton : Saw Pike about 8.30 a.m. \ on June 5 driving over the Carlton bridge, I going towards Riccarton. Mr Stringer, tor the defenco, submitted that the evidence as to the poisoning previous to June 5 was inadmissible. He cited the well-known case of Regina v.- Hall. Dealing with tbe alleg-ed poisoning on Juno 5, Mr Stringer submitted that; an alibi had been proved. Mr Joynt reviewed the whole case, and contended that an alibi had not been proved. The Bench intimated that they would require time to consider the case, and would give judgment this day week.

Protection and Maintenance.— Emily Wilmot asked for protection for herself and maintenance for her four girls from her husband. Mr Joynt appeared for the applicant. The Bench gave the required order, the husband to pay £2 per week towards the maintenance of his children.
