SYDENHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL.
— • — An ordinary meeting of the above took ! place last evening; present — His Worship the Mayor, and Councillors Gledhill, : Bowden, Booth, Taylor, White, Jacques, ! Muffett, Langdown, and Jones. CORRESPONDENCE. The following was dealt with : — From Mr C. Ladds, late Borough Auditor, in reference to his fee for auditing. Referred to Finance Committee. From the Spreydqn Eoad Board, stating j that they were willing to pay their share , of works proposed ix> be done on Boundary j road, and asking that the work might be commenced at Jerrold street without delay. Received, and referred to the Works Committee to reporb. A circular was received from the Labour Bureau, asking for the Council's support. Received. REPORTS. The report of the Workß Committee, which was as follows, was read and adopted :-— '• ♦• 1. Your Committee recommends that , tenders be accepted as follow :— (1) For the j supply of gravel, sand and Kaiapoi grit as | may be required, John Brightling ; (2) for j the supply of ironmongery and . kerosene, i Messrs Plaisted and Co. ; (3) for the supply of base brooms, H. J. Shaw ; (4) for the right to depasture stock on reserve No. 2365 until the land is otherwise required, Henry Spencer. No tender has been received for the right of depasturing stock on the recreation reserve. 2. The Committee recommends that the railway authorities be asked to construct a culvert j under the railway on the south-east side i of the Lincoln road, and that a culvert be | constructed by the Council to connect therewith, to carry the storm-water off the j Lincoln road into the storm-water drain : oc the north-weat side of the road. 3. The Committee also suggests that the Railway Department be asked to construct an j additional culvert alongside the one : already constructed under the railway, to take the storm-water from the east end of Carlyle street." A report was alao received from the Foreman of Works, stating what step 3 would be required to prevent the recurrence of floods in King3ley Btreot. The report was received. The report of the Finance Committee j showed : — Receipts : " General account, JJ27 i 17s 6d ; loan account, £4, Is 3d j total. .£3l 183 QA. Expenditure — Accounts recommended for payment : General account, £130 143 lOd; loan account, JSII2 9a 6d. Credit balance at Bank : General account, .£45 03 3d; drainage and Waiinakariri account, .£3l IGa 4d ; deposit account, J869 ; interest account, .£437 5s lid ; loan account current account, debit, £396 17s. Fixed deposit at j Bank •. Loan account, .£10,500. The Committee think that tho proposal of the New Plymouth Borough Council, to try j to get an alteration of the law to compel • owners of property, other than land and buildings, to contribute to the charitable institutions and hospital funds, is a good one and deserves support. The Committee recommends that the Council take immediate possession of reserve 30394, lately in the occupation of Mr Black, and invite tenders for the re-lease of the same. The Committee also recommended that the Clerk to the Licensing Bench be informed that this Council declines to pay his salary for the future." The report wa3 adopted. SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting was then held for tho purpose o{ considering the annual statement of accounts. It was resolved that tho annual statement of accounts, as certified to by the Auditor- General, be passed, and that the Mayor be authorised to sign the same. The Council then adjourned.
