Concert at Leithfield.

A very successful concert was held at the Town Hall, Leithfield, on Thursday evening, to raise funds for an entertainment to be given to tho children of the locality, and a display of fireworks in celebration of the Jubilee. The Rev J. Sheldon occupied the chair, and iv a few words described the object of the concert. Despite the dark and threatening night, the Hall was well filled, the singing unusually good, and the enthusiasm and loyalty of the audience expressed itself by repeated bursts of applause, rising to its greatest height at the singing of the National Anthem, joined in by all present, and concluded with three rounds of hearty cheers. Seven pounds were collected at the door, a handsome sum for bo small a place. Miss Hammond sang Visior's " Thy Voice is Near." Mr Ronaldson was very effective, and hit the popular fancy being loudly encored. Two pleasing duets (piano) were given by the Misses KiDg and Stace and Misses Barclay and Wheeler, and were much appreciated. The overtures by the Leithfield Band were well executed and much admired. An unusual treat was afforded by the school children singing " See-Saw "in character. Great praise is due to Mr Franks for the attention and trouble given by him to ensure this part of the performance being a success. The concert was followed by a ball.
