News from New Guinea.
(Per Tarawera at the Bluff.) [Per Pbess Association.] MELBOURNE, Feb. 2. The steamer Victory has arrived at '. Thursday Island from New Guinea, and j reports all quiet. The expedition against ! the murderers of Captain Craig at Johannes Island has returned, but the result of the expedition is unknown at Port Moresby. Herr Edelfeldt, the representative of Burns and Philp at Motu Motu, reports that the natives are very troublesome and unsettled. On Jan. 6 they killed a man, woman, and child belonging to Moraria, who were staying at Motu. The warriors i then proceeded up the William river to Moraria, where they killed 16 more men, women, and children, and also several more Morarians going to and returning from work. The tribes had previously been friendly, and no reason is given for the massacre. The Motuians have been holding a great feast, and state their intention to massacre the Burn village and Kerewain in the same way. There will probably be reprisals ere long. __________________
