In spite of the continued dry weather, which keeps the rivers very low, angling still goes on in the Temuka and Opihi. In the former river, however, it is of not much use to fish, as there is a considerable ' growth of weeds and slime, and the bait is constantly getting smothered. Although little has been heard from Mr N. C. Nicholas, the veteran, lately, his record for the past month has not been bad. On 21 nights he landed 86 fish, scaling 32?1b. A very successful excursion to the upper waters of the Opihi was made last Saturday by Messrs Flint, K. F. Gray, and F. K. Gray. They fished principally in the * neighbourhood of the Opuha station, and succeeded in grassing 31 fish, weighing » 1721 b. The weights, in accordance with the usage of the Geraldine County Anglers' Society, were verified by an uninterested person, Mr Wigley acting as such in this instance. Outfof this take four fishes fell to Mr Gray, weighing 211 b; Mr Flint took 18 fishes, scaling 981 b; and Mr F. K. Gray landed 9, weighing 531 b, two of which turned the scale at 91b each. This portion of the river is at present full of fish, 61 large ones having been seen in one reach. The overcrowding, of course, makes them hungry, and they readily take almost any » bait. Rain is badly wanted, as there is a prospect of some of the pools getting dried up and a loss of fish in consequence. The beft medicine known is Sandor and Son's Eucalypti Extract. The offensive foter disappeared very soon, the fever abated within a few days, and the patient recovered after the lapse of I several weeks. In this instance we must not lose sight of the fact that the latter treatment saved the patient's life."— f Abvt.]
