COMMEBCIAL.

GEAIN AND PRODUCE. The downfall of rain that his made glad the heart of many a farmer was much wanted, reports from nearly all the districts confirming our opinion that the crops generally were prematurely ripening 1 . AUhonghfavoarablo to the agriculturist, the cold weather prevailing has not had a beneficial effect on the pastures ; but with sunshine and an absence of nor'-«esters, feed Bhould come on rapidly. The recent rains will have been most welcome to the turnip crop. Messrs A eland. Barns and Co. (aa agents for F. W. Seynolds and Co., London) successfully put into stack several tons of grass at Captain Fisher's farm, Sydenham. This, as a species of enailuKO, will have special Interest, as requiring no expensive buildings or cellars. Wheat.— Transactions are very few, tLere being no tendoncy to accumulate stocks. Pearl is most in demand at, say, 4a 5d to 4a 6d; other wheats are worth Id per bushel less. Any ohickwheat offering is takon at full rates.

Oats are not in demand, and samples of fair feed are offering at low rates. Milling sorts are not in quantity, and maintain full values. We quote milling at 2s per bushel ; heavy feed, to Is lOd ; light to ordinary feed, Is 7d to Is 9d.

B^blet. —Nothing doing in this grain. Gsass Seed — Quotations are impossible, as no business is doing. The prospects of the crop of cocksfoot on the Peninsula are 'very favourable, recent rains having had a most beneficial effect.

Potatoes.— The season may ba said to have dosed.

Daiht Fhodtjce. — No marked improvement can be noted in the value of butter, though there are signs cf a better enquiry- Chee c r mains at last week's quotations.
