Deputations to the Premier.

DUNEDIN, Dec. 18,
Three deputations waited on Sir Robert Stoat this morning. The first represented the Presbyterian Church authorities, complaining of Property Tax being levied on the Widow and Orphan and Aged Ministers' Funds. Sir Robert Stout advised that steps should be taken for getting these funds under the operation of the Friendly Societies Act, when they would be exempt. The second deputation consisted of small landowners in South Dcmedin, who complained of being excluded from the homeBtead system. Sir Robert Stout pointed out that the village settlement system was far more applicable to their circumstances, and stated that he whs in favour of extending the acreage from 50, under that system, to 150. In his opinion the homestead system would prove a failure, and an extension of the village system would meet all the requirements. In response to an application from the Charitable Aid Board for the use of the Immigration Barracks at Caversham, Sir Robert Stout said he objected to the proposal, but was willing to assist the Board to extend their own buildings at Caversham,
