THE TIMARU MURDER CASE.

The Enquiry Resumed.

COMMITTAL FOR TRIAL.

[Special to the " Star."]

TIMARU, Dec. 17.

The charge of murder was continued thia morning, before J. S. Beswick, R.M. ; and as the Courthouse was occupied by Judge Johnston, the proceedings were carried on in the grand jury room. The Court opened at eleven o'clock.

His Worship aßked Mr White had he any further evidence to bring forward, and was told that the Crown had produced all the witnesses they intended to call at the prf sent tim.}. Bis Worship then formally committed Hall on the charge.

Mr Perry replied, to the usual question, that Hall had nothing to Bay, but that he intended to call Professor Black for the defence. This placed him in a most anomalous position. It seemed strange for him to have to call the principal witness for the prosecution, bat although he was not able to cross-examine Professor Black, he was sure be was such an honourable man that he would tell everything.

PROFESSOR BLACK

was then examined, and hi? account of the different tests made showed conclusively that antimony was found in the parts of Captain Cain's body which were analysed. The Professor gave his evidence without the slightest hesitation, showing what a good memory he must have, and how well up he is in his work. The Professor's examination will take another hour or bo after the luncheon adjournment, -which was made at five minuteß after one o'clock. The Court meets again at two o'clock.
