ASHBURTON HUNT CLUB.

« A meeting of members of the AshbuTton Comity Hunt Club was held at the Commercial Hotel, Aehburton, on Saturday evening. There waa a very large attendance, and Mr Matthew Stitt, the master, prebided. It was resolved to hold the annual steeplechases in connection with the Club on Wednesday, August 18. The following officers were appointed :— Patron, Hon J. M'Leanj President, Mr E. G. Wiight; vice- Presidents, Messrs John Grigg, C. G. Eawdon, Drs Leahy and Ross; Judge, Mr Matthew Stitt; Stewards, Mee3rs Upton, J. C. N. Grigfr, G. Rutherford, Eoid, Denshire, Fooks, M'Owen, Merewether, Bowyer, and Dr /^enhy ; Starter, Dr Leahy; Clerk of the Scales, Mr Davis; Handicappera, Messrs F. Cotton, Stitt and Upton. The programme of races drafted by the Committee w.i° submitted, amended and adopted. Tlu> following are the events comprised in On; pro gramme : — Hurdleßace Handiohp (Jipti i .t), of 15 sovb, two miles ; Hunt OJuJi St-cyle-chasc (open) trophy or cash of 30 s<jvs, about three miles ; Selling Hank Race, of 15 6ovs, three-quarters of a mile ; Maiden Steeplechase (district), of 15 boys, two milcß; Hunters' Flat Eace Handicap (open), of 15 sovb, two miles; Consolation Handicap Steeplechase, of 10 soys, one mile and a half. Pull particxilars of the programme will bo advertised. It was resolved that the t>?rm "amateur rider" should mean any person who has never ridden in a race for him, and who is a member of a recognised Hunt Club.
