CHURCH WORK SOCIETY.

Thoie was a large attendance at the adjourned annual meeting «f the Church Work Society, held at Christ's College Library last evening. The Very Eev the Dean presided. The Eev L. Keating, Chaplain for Public Institutions, who has undertaken the duties of the Rev J. Holland, referred to his work at the Hospital and Lunatic Asylum. He had been aaaured by Dr Hacon that the services conducted at;.the latter Institution had a good effect upon the inmates. He suggested that some additional assistance and improved organisation, with regard to the visiting of patients at the Hospital, would be an improvement. The Eev E. Chambers ; gave a review of the work he had been enI gaged in amongst the sailors at Lytteltpn. He suggested the establishment of a Mission Hall, where the sailors could drop in and amuae themselves with various recreations, and thus be kept out of temptation. The Eev H. C. M. Watson gave an address on his impreaaiona of Engliali Church work as gained during his recent visit to the Old Country. He remarked that though there were diversities oE opinion in theological matters aajongst tho clergy, they all worked together with unanimity for the spiritual welfare of the people. A contrast I to his Colonial experience waa presented in j the fact that some of tho Bishops appeared to be out of sympathy with their clergy. His recent visit to England had confirmed him ia his idea that it waa a mistake to underrate the Colonial clergy. A discussion followed the Eev H. C. M. Watson's address, the Eev H. T. Purchag, H. B. Cocks, J. ] Chaffers-Welsh, C. Bowen, and Mr W. H. Shaw taking part in it. A vote of thanks was passed to the Eev gentlemen who had addressed the meeting,.on the motion of Mr H. E. Webb, and the, proceedings closed with, prayer.
