Weather Calm and Settled.

The Lyttelton lies a short distance from -where the ship Duke of Sutherland was wrecked, and is in about twenty-six feet of water. At the present time the sea is calm, and the weather seems settled, but if rough weather shonld come <m the ship will go to pieces. The officers and crew" have lost nearly all their apparel and belongings, as the time between the vessel commencing to fill, and sinking, was bo Bhort (abont twenty minutes), that there was very little time to save anything. The surf-boate and a number of hands have been Bent out to the Lyttelton to dismantle her, and the agents have arranged that the diver Collis should go down, and if possible examine the bottom of the vessel as soon as low water permits of the work being undertaken. A lot of deck lumber, kc, is floating abont the ship, which makes it rather dangerous for boats to approach her at high water. The ' wcea were breaking fore and aft over her decks. A meeting of the Harbour Board is now taking place to oonsider what steps Bhonld be taken to recover the cargo and float the vessel if possible. The cargo taken on board from Dunedin was C 47 bales of wool and skins, 840 sacks of flour, 966 sacks of oats, 7 cases, 84 kegs sundries, 90 casks of oil, and 23 casks of tallow. The wool and nearly all the frozen mutton that was loaded here waa insured. Mr Elworthy, unfortunately, haa one thousand carcaaes •on board uninsured.
