» ANNUAL MEETING. THE. CASH CORRECT. The annual meeting of the Kaiapoi Borough Council was held last evening; : present — The Mayor, and Councillors Wearing, Simpson, Eidd, Blakeley, Humphreys, Hicks, Brighting and Oram. auditors' report. The Auditors presented tho following report : — j " Herewith we hand you statement of ! accounts in connection with the Borough finances, for the half-year ending March 31, 1886, and for the financial year ending the same period, and have certified to their correctness. In the absence of the Clerk, and owing to the lax manner in which the books have been kept, considerable trouble and difficulty has been experienced in ascertaining the actual position of the Council. We have, however, succeeded in preparing an accurate balance sheet, and have made a careful and searching audit of the books up to date, and we have much pleasure in informing you that the cash ia correct. — C. M. Brooke, C. J. Champion, Auditors." The expenditure for the year, representing a total of £4079 15s lOd, inchided £2230 93 on account of the new bridge. The Bank balance was £929 16s 6d. It was proposed by Councillor Blakely and seconded by Councillor Simpson — "That the balance-sheet as read be adopted." Carried unanimously. The meeting then terminated.
