Accident to the S.S. Hawea.
[Teh Press Association.] NELSON, March 30. At an hour before high water this morning, as tlia .steamer Hawea was being brought into the harbour, the pilot's son being in charge, the vessel failed to answer her helm when in the Narrows at the entrance, and with the way she had on her, she ran ashore close to the leading lights on Haven road. Running up on the gravel beach, her bow became hard and fast, and though the Mahinapua, which had just entered, went down and tried to tow her off, she was unsuccessful. At high water this evening tha same steamer for over an hour tried to pull her off, rrnd every effort was made, but the Hawea remained in the same place, though she has slewed round a ' little. The Mahinapua then sailed for the
coast. The tide tonight -wag * very poor one, and the steamer should get off tomorrow. She is upright and uninjured.
