ChaffersWelsh presided, and the entertainment ' passed off most successfully. i An inedited contemporary account of ! the early exploits of Joan of Arc has lately been brought to light in the archives of Borne. Examination shows that it is probably an additional chapter . to the chronicle published at Poitiers in 1579, under the title "Breviarium Historiale." Several manuscripts are extant of this work ; but only one, that at ' Rome, contains the part relating to the i Maid of Orleans. The author of the narrative is unknown, but there are some indications in the text that he was an attache ♦f the Court of Martin V., and was in Rome in 1428-29. The attendance at the Art Gallery yesterday was fairly good. In the evening Madame Summerhayes played in her usual brilliant style the following items : — Andante and Rondo Capriccioso, Mendelssohn ; Airs from . " Les Cloches de Corneville " ; " Laughing i Water," Wely; "Melody in F," Rubenstein; "Last Hope," Gottschalk} "Sonnambula," Thalberg ; and a selection of music Iby Farmer for violin and piano. This I evening, the orchestra — composed of Miss j Wynn- Williams, piano; Miss F. Wynn- , Williams, violin ; Mr Cecil Wynn- Williams, cornet ; Mr Harry Wynn-Williams, flute ; ; Master Berti Wynn-Williams, 'cello — will give a special programme. Between the orchestral performances several duets for piano and violin will be performed by Miss Hamilton and Mr Woodgate, a distinguished amateur violinist recently arrived ; from England. The patients at the Hospital were cheered yesterday afternoon by an excellent con- ; cert, kindly given by Mibb Roaina Catasx- : dini, Mesdameß Gray and Appleby, and Messrs Appleby and Merton. The programme was a repetition of the selections ' given by these ladies and gentlemen on the occasion of Miss Carandini's concert on Monday week last. Soloa were contri- ; buted by Miss Carandini, Mrs Gray, and ; Mr Appleby, a duet by Miss Carandini and ! Mr Appleby, and several glees by all the singers. The patients, to whom the ; entertainment was an unusual pleasure, thoroughly enjoyed it. A large number ! of visitors were present, and contributed towards the Destitute Patients' Fund. A pleasing incident was the presentation to Miss Carandini of a beautiful bouquet of flowers by the youngest little girl patient in the Hospital. At the conclusion of the concert, Dr Symes, Chairman of the Destitute Patients' Relief Fund Committee, moved a hearty vote of thanks to the ladies and gentlemen for their kindness, and referred to the great benefit the patients derived by having their minds diverted from their sufferings by the pleasure of listening to such Bweet music as they had heard that afternoon.
