CRICKET.

SENIOR COP. LAN-ASTi-U PARK v. UNITED. This match is not quite played out, being left in rather an interesting, if not exciting, position for the Lancastrians, who have 50 runs to mate to tie, and three wickets still to fall. It has been arranged to play on Wednesday afternoon, and a start will be made at half -past 4 o'clock. The United men went on with their second innings, W. J. Cotterill and R. D. Harman being the two not-ouls of the previous week. Though the wicket was excellent, Cotterill did not add to his 26, being bowled almost immediately by Forsyth. The star of Harman was, however, in the ascendant, and whilo no other batsman of the United team succeeded in reaching double figures, the brothers I_. D. and T. D. were very much to the fore. E. D. Harman played a very fine innings for 63, without a chance, save one to the wicket-keeper, just before he was bowled by Dunlop. His brother's 24 waa not made in the best form, especially at the commencement of the innings, though he improved considerably afterwards. Ross played very patiently for 8, and stopped a deal of good bowling, but no other batting talent came to the rescue, and the innings closed for 161. Forsyth, besides being the most successful bowler for the Park, was likewise the best, for he was straight and fair length. His analysis is decidedly the best. When Lancaster Parkhadtheirturn, badfortune seemed to have seized on most of their most trusted batsmen. Wilding was caught off Fairhurst without scoring, and B. Mathias, who took three wickets for 11 runs, dismissed Peeves with his very first ball, a trimmer. The rest, with the exception of Crawshaw and D. Dunlop, followed suit, and stumps were drawn with seven wickets down for S9. Out of this small total Crawshaw made more than half in sound sterling style, and is still not out with 55 to his credit on the score-sheet. D. Dunlop hit about him merrily, and a staring G in Eoss' analysis does not improve that bowler's average. The fielding was good on both sides. Scores : — UNITED. Ist Innings 162 2nd Timings. "W. J. An eleven of the Lancaster Park Club, who gc to Dunedin to-day, where they will play some matches this week, met a Club eleven, captained by Mr Cooper, on Saturday, the game resulting in a draw. The following are the scores : — Mr Cooper's team, 143: Shannon -IS, Cooke 22, Dobson 21, W. Forsyth 14, and A. Kidley 11. Mr Pig.y's team 12.1 for 3 wickets .- Hay not out bl, Lawrence 34, and Stevens 10. - The return match between the Sb Albans J CXC. and the Stanmore C.C. was played at ' St Albans on Saturday, and again resulted

in a victory for St Albans by five wickets j and four runs on the first innings. Scores j —St Albans, 58 for five wickets ; Stanmore, ' s*l. For Sb Albans, C. Cusack (27 not out) and R. Smith (20) batted well, while M. . Smith bowled well. For Stanmore, Butcher (12) and M'Cleary (11) batted well, while Hammond bowled well. The Addington second met and defeated the United second on Saturday, in a very easy fashion. The former were the first to bat, and thanks to the hard hitting of Curtain and Richards, who scored 49 and 24 respectively, and tho good-all-round play of Slater for 30, the team wore not dismissed until a total of IG3 had been reached. Hamilton and Burgess were the most successful bowlers of the number who were tried, and they were backed up by fairly ; good fielding. The United, batting one short, could not get beyond 59, toward which number R. Hamilton, Ward and Burgess contributed most. Curtain bowled very well for Addington, taking G wickets for 24 runs, Slater also coming off with 3 for 7 runs. On Friday a cricket match, which, if not j distinguished by such brilliant play as a match between the Australians and All England, was fully as enjoyable to all concerned, took placo at Mr Coulahan's paddock at Fendalton. The contestants were a team of visitors from Christchurch, captained by Mr H. S. Hobday, and a local team under the leadership of Mr Righton. After about four hours' play victory resulted for the Fendalton men. Refreshments on a most liberal scale were provided by Mr Righton. The pleasure of those present was also enhanced by the beautiful weather and tho pretty and picturesque surroundings of the ground. A large number of visitors, a considerable proportion of them ladies, witnessed the match.
