School Committees.
LEESTON. A meeting of the Leeston School Committee was held on Friday evening last. The Chairman reported that several persons were in the habit of turning their cattle into the Bide school grounds 5 thai he had had the fences repaired, but some person bad sinoe removed tho post by the stile so that the cattle could still get in j that the new clasß-room had been completed and the whole of the school buildings thoroughly renovated, and the work done in a highly satisfactory manner. The Secretary was instructed to write to the police, and ask the constable to impound cattle straying on the roads near the school. Correspondence waß read : — From Mr Mackay, stating that the school had been re-opened on Feb. 10, with an attendance of 148 pupils at the main school, and 57 at the side school; asking for furniture for the new class room, and another pupil teacher. From tho Board of Education, statiug that tho school would be entitled to an assistant mistress in addition to the pupil teacher, whon the average attendance is increased by nine. From the same, re election of members of the Board. The Secretary was instructed to write to the Board for the furniture required for the new class room, and also to advertise for a pupil teacher in the third year. The Committee decided to vote for Messrs Bowen, Cunningham and Saunders as members ©_ the Board of Education. The head master was requested to furnish a list of children, who either do not attend school at. all, or who are irregular in their attendance, and it was decided to isaue Bummonßes against their parents or guardians for not complying with the provisions of tho Education Act.
