» COMMEMORATION DAY. Of all the day3 in a College year the most noteworthy undoubtedly is that well named Commemoration Day, and this year the day at Chrißt's College was very far from being an exception to the general rule. The observance of the day began with the celebration of Holy Communion in the College Chapel at 8 a.m. At half-past ten o'clock there was a short service, with a sermon by the Yen Archdeacon Lingard, who took for his text John vn., 53. j NEW BUILDINGS. An hour later the Most Eev the Warden laid the first stone of the new buildings, which will be of two storeys, built of brick, with stone dressings, and will occuy nearly all the spa .c between the chapel and the library, indeed usurping a small part of the latter building. The ceremony was assisted at by the Very Eev the Dean, the Yen Archdeacons Dudley and Lingard, the Eev Canon Cotterill, and the Eevs C. Bowen, Hare and F. Knowles. There wah also a large number of ladies and others present. The following was the form of prayer : — Prevent us 0 Lord in all our doing 3 with Thy most gracious faVour, and further us with Thy continual help, that in all our works, begun, continued, and ended in Thee, we may glorify Thy Holy name, and finally by Thy mercy obtain everlasting life, through Christ Our Lord. Amen. The Lord's Prayer. V. Our help standefh in the Lord ; E. Who made Heaven earth. V. Except the Lord build the house ; E. Their labour is but lost who build it. V. O, Lord, hear our pray.r ; E. And let our cry come unto Thee. Let us pray. O, God, forasmuch as without Thee we are not able to please Thee, mercifully grant that Thy Holy Spirit may in all things direct and rule our hearts, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. 0, Lord God, who art the Fountain of all wisdom and knowledge, and givest the increase thereof, let Thy grace and Heavenly benediction continually rest on thia house of learning, which, is called by the name of Thy dear Son, and prosper this our undertaking; and grant that the young who may be gathered here for instruction may diligently use the gifts Vith which Thou hast endowed them, and go forward and increase in the knowledge profitable for the life that now is, and for that which i 3 to come. Through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (Here the stone was laid with the usual formalities.) Through our Lord Jesus Christ, and in His name, we lay this stone in the foundation of these new buildings, in faith that they will be used in accordance with the will of God, and to His honour and glory, who, with the Son and the Holy Ghost, liveth and reigneth ever one God, world without end. Amen. Let us pray. Almighty and most merciful God, we beseech Thee of Thy great goodness to bless what we have blessed, that these buildings already begun, may be continued and finished with Thy gracious benediction ; and that true knowledge and faith, the fear of Thee, and brotherly love may abound therein, through Jesus Christ our Lord. The Lord h.lp you and keep you. The Lord make His face to shine upon you, and be gracious unto you. The Lord lift up the light of His countenance upon you and give you peace now and for evermore. Amen. The following was the inscription placed beneath the stone : — Ad majorem Dei gloriam iEdium in sanaj doctrine, utilisque scientiajque cultum In hoc situ exstruendarum Hie lapis augularis A Viro Eeverendißsimo H.
