Defeat of the Batouche Indians.
The Federation Bill. Town of Panama Occupied by America. [Special to Press Association.] [Received April 28, at 9.15 a.m. | LONDON, April 27. The rebels aud Batouche Indiana under Louis Eiel have been completely routed by the Canadian forces, after seven hours' fighting. Mr Murray Smith, Agent-General for Victoria, writing to the Time* states that the omission of clause 31 from tho Federation Enabling Bill, providing for tho withdrawal of «t Colony, would postpone federation. Tho New South Wales Government are insisting on the retention of clause 31. The town of Panama, which has been virtually in a state of siege for Bomo time past, has been occupied by the American Government, who havo caused the arrest of the rebel leader. The French Government have protested against the action of America. [The town of Panama, which has a population of upwards of 18,000, is a Beaport in Panama Bay, and is the southern terminus of the line of railway across the Isthmus.])
