OUR FORESTS.

WELLINGTON, Dec. 19. The Hon the Premier and Mr Tole, Minister of Justice, will arrive hero the first week in January. The regulations and particulars of runs which will shortly be offered for lease, will be gazetted next week. Mr Duncan M'Leod has been appointed member of the Greymouth Harbour Board. Professor Kirk, formerly of Christchurch University, has been deputed by Government to report on the forests of New Zealand. Mr Kirk will commence operations at Invercargill, and work his way northwards as far as the Bay of Islands. It is understood that next session the Gorernment will bring down a scheme of conservation of the forests. The Colonial Life Assurance Society have purchased a business site here for .£15,000.
