LONDON, Dec. 18. Arrived — Elderslie, s.s., from Port Chalmers (Oct. 17), with a cargo of frozen mutton, which, is believed to be in good condition. LONDON, Dec. 19. The total reserve in the Bank of England in notes and bullion is an increase of £400,000 during the week. The proportion to liabilities has fallen from 41 to 40 per cent. The Bank rate of discount remains at 5 per cent, and the market rate at 4| per cent. Consols are unchanged at 99| v and New Zealand securities at last quotations. Australian hides ar-e in good demand, and rather dearer. Breadstuffs and tallow are without quotable change.

MELBOURNE, Dec. 19. Mr Berry, Chief Secretary, and Mr Langridge, Commissioner of Trade and Customs, proceed to Hobart next month, to discuss with the members of the Tasmanian Government the question of a reciprocal tarifi: between the two Colonies.
