Mr White's Question. J A deputation representing the coal j mining. Companies working the Kamo and j Kawakawa fields has reached Wellington. J Its. object is to get the Government to ! extend the operations of the East and j West Coast Middle Island Railway Bill, so 1 as to include the Northern Auckland dis- j trict. They have had interviews with Sir I Julius Yogel on the matter, and have, I understand, succeeded in obtaining a promise that a Company making a line to develop the fields will le j granted the same land concessions as j in the case of those who undertake the formation of the other line. The two colliery Companies mentioned above are now amalgamated, and as Mr Peacock is Managing Director of oue, and Mr Hobbs the member for the dis- : trict, their votes may perhaps be explained, j Mr White has a question on the order j paper to-day, asking if the writer of the j letter referring to the unemployed ques- [ tion, which appeared in your paper on Oct. j 8, signed " J. Ollivier," is not written by a } member of the Civil service, and whether j it is not a breach of the regulations j of that service to write letters on I public matters, or reflecting offensively } on the actions of members of Parliament, j Also if it is true that 10s 7id could be | earned "per diem at Little River, and I whether men earning that sum left the j work "as not suiting their refined } stomachs ?" j = i
