What the "Otago Daily Times " Says.

♦ [Special to the " Stab."] DTTNEDIN, Sept. 2. The Otago Daily Times of this morning declares that Mr Stout is responsible for the present unsatisfactory state of things. It says : — " Sir Julius Yogel was the only leader really desirous of bringing about a dissolution. Major Atkinson would consent to no coalition of which he was not the Premier. MrStoutnerermade any genuine attempt in that direction. The country should realise these facts. The vanity of Major Atkinson, and more particularly of Mr Stout, marred all attempts at coalition. Mr Stout's sympathies are with the Greyites, and throughout he has used Sir Julius Yogel as a stepping-stone for his own advancement. The responsibility for Sir George Grey's supremacy rests with Messrs Stout and Atkinson. How -can they reconcile their conduct with their public declarations that a coali- i tion was necessary for the formation «f a stable Government ? They have gone back on their words without any sense of shame." The article hints at Mr Stout's party withdrawing from Sir Julius Yogel, and urges the latter to take the Premiership. " This would mean a division of the House into proper parties, and would ultimately lead to the formation of an Atkin- j son-Vogel combination. The most satisfactory combination would be Sir Julius Yogel as Premier, with Mr Stout as leader of the House/ It thinks the majority of the House will support any moderate ministers plucky enough to defy the Great Mogul of the North . It concludes : — " The best course open to Sir Julius Yogel and Mr Stout is to work on exactly the opposite lines adopted in the previous formation of a Government."
