THE GENERAL ELECTION.

Mr George Morris is addressing the Gladstone electors in the various districts, but the proceedings are disorderly, and the candidature is regarded as farcical.

Mr D. Anderson, of Pleasant Point, is also engaged in the same campaign. Mr Dunlop addressed the electors at Fendalton, Riccarton, and Yaldhurst last week, and received a vote of confidence at each of the meetings, which were largely attended. | A meeting of the Stanmore electors was held last evening, at the Library, Knightstewn, in order to hear the views of Mr G. Dorney, one of the candidates for the Stanmore seat. There was a crowded meeting, and Mr Dorney was patiently listened to by those present. A number of questions were put to the candidate, which were answered in a satisfactory manner. A vote of thanks and confidence in Mr Dorney was carried by a large majority, and a vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the meeting

Mr E. M. Clissold addressed the electors of Lyttelton in the Colonists' Hall, last night. There was a crowded house, and Mr T. Merson was in the chair. A large number of questions were asked, and answered in a manner which seemed to meet with approval. A vote of confidence was moved and carried, and at the close of the meeting, Mr Clissold declared his intention to contest the seat.

Mr Biltcliff has withdrawn from Avon in favour of Mr Dunlop.
