A Dynamite Scare at Kaiapoi.
TO THB EDITOR OP THB B>PAH. Sin, — At a time like the present, when •outrages by monns of explosives at Home and on the Continent of Europe are on the inorease, it is peculiarly agitating to the well balanced mind to have its afterbreakfast meditations disturbed by suchan alarming paragraph as appeared in your contemporary, the Press, this morning. Here in our miust, in Kaiapoi, that peaceful, if somewhat wordy place, occuts a dreadful dynamite scare. On reading the graphic and bountifully worded description of the thrilling event, mingled feelings of alarm and admiration are evoked, and one is at a loss whether to admire most, the prompt energy and indomitable courage displayed by tln< Chairman of the Harbour Board, or the skilful daring with which Mr 'Thurlow, an expert no doubt, "poked a hole in the river " to insert the cartridge. It is, however, gratifying to find, as' expressed in the latter portion of the startling paragraph that the wholo terrible Incident " was only a successful trial (?) in showing how much better the compound •could be managed." — I am, &c, INFOEMEE.
