South Waimakariri Board of Conservators.

■» An ordinary meeting of the South Waimakariri Board of Conservators was held at 2 p.m. this afternoon ; present— Messrs B. W. England (Ohairman), F. Jones, H. W. Peryman, H. Atkinson, T. 0. Moorhouse, and W. White. The Ohairman stated that the debit balance at the Bank was £138 18a 4d. He read the reports from the foreman at the works, which stated that there had been two small freshets in the river recently, and the main stream was enoroaohing near No. 2 groin, but no serious damage had been done. The Ohairman Baid he had heard that a large quantity of snow was collected in tbe ranges, and he feared that if there was a period of hot weather the freshes would be exceedingly heavy. Mr Jones, on behalf of the Workß Committee, reported that the Under Secretary for Crown Lands had been written to asking for a Crown grant title under the Land Transfer Act for reserve 178, but no reply had been reoeived. The Commictoe had leased this reserve to Mr George Bedford, for £8, for the use of this land up to April 2. The Committee had sanctioned a request from the Chief Surveyor that the foreman should inspeot some work on the Upper Bakaia, but the foreman had not yet been able to do so. The aotion taken by the Works Committee was approved. Accounts amounting to £532 2s 3d were passed for payment. Correspondence was read — From Mr Smyth re reserve ; from Mr Cyril J. Mountfort, re execution of lease of reserve (this had been attended to) ; and from Mr George Bedford, re occupation of reserve 178. The above letters were reoeived. The Templeton Boad Board wrote stating that the collection of their rates was completed, and forwarding oheqae for £24 2s as total amount of Waimakariri ratea in their district for the ourreat year. The Ohairman remarked that this was very satisfactory, and it was decided that the Boad Board be thanked for their promptness. This was all the business, and the . Board adjourned.
