The Fatal Accident at Longbeach.
♦ Subjoined are fuller details of the fatal acoident reported by telegram in our issue of yesterday : — A fatal acoident of a most distressing nature ooourred at Longbeaoh, en Sunday, Deo. 9, when Mr Alfred Dawson, Manager of tbe Bank of Australasia, at Feilding, lost his life by drowning. The deceased, who is second son of Mr Aadrew Dawson, a much respected farmer at Waterton, in this district, was down to see his parents on a holiday visit, and on Sunday, accompanied by some friends, he went en an excursion to the beaob. Being a strong swimmer, he was tempted to go into the water, although warnsd by his companions that this part of tbe ooaßfc w»b particularly dangerous to bathers. He, however, persisted, and after swimming some distanoe his friends suddenly lost sight of him, and his dead body was washed up half -an hour afterwards, ani conveyed to his parents' residence. He was but 28 years of age, and it is almost needless to say that the greatest sympathy is felt for his sorrowing parents by the whole community. An inquest wag held yesterday.
