Industrial Exhhibition.
*- A. well attended moeting of the Industrial Exhibition Committee was held last eveniog, Mr Howland in the ohair. Apologies for absence wero made for Dr von Haast, Moeirß B. H. Wood, W. 8. King, T. 8. Weston, and 0. Hull. Mr O. Beeso mentioned that Mr Beager had effered to givo three entertainments during the Bxhibition, consisting of dissolving views, legerdemain, ond illueionary figures (the last in conjunction with Professor Bickerton). Ihe ofler was aooepted with thanks. It was decided that the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals should be allowed to exhibit diagrams showing the best methods of harnesßing horseß, ko., and Mr Guudersen obtained permission to exhibit threo eleotrio clooks, one large dial to be displayed in a conspicuous plaoe outside the Bxhibition building. Letters were received from the Auckland asd Dunedin Chambers of Commerce, the former enquiring how they oould best assist the Committee, and the latter promising their hearty support and oooperation to what tbey considered a meet commendable undertaking. Ihe Union Steamship Company wrote, promising to convey back bond fide exhibits to the ports whence they were shipped. The Chairman stated that tbe guarantee fund amounted to £650 (exclusive of the £300 voted by the Industrial Association), and he had no doubt that with a little more exertion in canvassing the required £1000 guarantee would be obtained. Notwithstanding tbat it WM very early for applications for epaoe to oome in, 7032 square faet had already been applied for by 37 exhibitors. It was resolved that for the future the General Committee Bhould meet fortnightly on alternate Tuesdays at 6 p.m., aad the Executive OomaiiMeo every Tuesday at 730 p.m. Ihe following gentlemen were elected ae an Entertainment Cemmittoe :— Dr von Haast, Professor Bickerton, Messrs B. W. England, 0. Hull. F. Jsnkint, IE. Toomer, F. Jones, 0. 11. Gray, and B, Allan. Ihe Committee then adjourned. Tho following is the letter reoeived from the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce : — --Sir, — I have the honour to acknowledge the reoeipt of yeur letter of tbe 21st ultenclosing oiroular of the New Zoak*ad Industrial Association upon the proposed exhibition in Ohristohuroh in December next. The Committee of this Ohamber very cordially recognise the great benefits that arise from such exhibitions of the industrial skill of our Colonial artisans ; they aid in the development and undoubtedly lead to an iaereaeed demand for our Oolonial manufactures, from the latter being brought more prominently before consumers by these exhibitions than is the case if they were left to make their way by private means.
