fPua Pbbsb Association.] WELLINGTON, Bust. 10. Captain Qreig, of the Government schooner Kekeno, employed in the prevention of sealing during the oloae season, reportß to the Secretary of the Marine Department under date August 16 that he had been detained ab Fort Pegasus, Stewart Island, from August. 3, wailing for the weather to moderate sufficiently to enable him to start on a cruise to the Auckland Islands. His detention was oaused through strong gales of wind blowing principally from between south and west. Occasion illy the wind would back round to the north-west for an hour or two, with heavy rain and falling barometer, and then would change again to south-west and blow with groat violence. At 2 a.m on August 16 it was from tho south, and at mid-day was blowing a heavy gale from the north-west, with pouring rain and barometer at 29. All was well on board the vessel. The Oity Solicitor has resigned his office, on the ground, it was understood, that certain correspondence was published by officers of the Corporation in a way which he deems disiogonuous and calculated to reflect unjustly upon his performance of his official duties as legal adviser to the Corporation, by conveying an erroneous impression as to what really took place. The Cook Ward Licensing Committee have extended the houra of dosing of public-houses in their distriot until midnight.
