[Rhumb's Telkqbams.] The Canal Question. Australian Loans. [Reoeived July 18, at 12.30 p.m.] BRISBANE, July 18. The Ministry have adopted a memorandum on the question of the annexation of New Guinea, to be transmitted to the Secretary of State and to all the Colonies. The document suggests that, in the first place, joint representations should be made by all the Oolonies to the Imperial Government, urging further consideration of the question and a final decision in regard to New Guinea. It is further proposed that the Home Government should be invited to move in the direotion of providing a Federal Governor for Australasia.

LONDON, July 17. Tenders for the new three million loan, with a minimum of par, were opened to-day. The total amount offered was found to be £3,140,000. Tenders at par will receive 93 per cent of the allotment, and tenders above par will receive in f nil. The tenderß for the Hobson's Bay Harbour Trust loan of £250,000 at 5 per cent; which were opened to-day, amounted to £334,000. Tenders at par will receive 45 per cent of the allotment, and those above par, in full.

In the House of Lords to-day, Earl Granville in reply to a question, Btated that the Government had found it impossible to make better conditions in the agreement, for the construction of a second Suez canal, owing to the position of Count de Lesseps and the rights of shareholders in the existing Company. Still, His Lordship added, Government were not prepared to admit that Baron de Lesseps posaessed a monopoly in connection with the construction of canals through the Isthmus of Suez.

The Bromley episode has been amicably arranged, and the oases withdrawn from the Oourt The defendant admitted that he waß lawfully married to the lady who oame here from Sydney to see him. Xhe steamer M'Gregor, whioh has been detained in the Waitara Biver eight days, owing to a sandbank whioh had formed and prevented her getting out, attempted to leave this morning. She grounded on the South Spit, whore she now lies, An attempt was made to lighten her, but without effeot ; and she now Hes on the spot on whioh the s.s.Bowena grounded years ago, and where she remained two months before she again floated. There is a bumpy sea on, and her position is critical. The New Plymouth harbour tug is lending her every assistance. Tho steamer Bowena not boing able to enter the Waitara came on to New Plymouth to discharge her cargo this morning.

'. INVEBOABGILL, July 18. Several casos of typhoid f sver have ocourred in the district, and two deaths have already resulted. The shareholders of the Port Longwood Mining Oompany have resolved to test the reef ; and it is understood that efforts will be mado to sink upon it.
