THE INTERPROVINCIAL FOOTBALL MATCHES.
From tho Bunedin papers we find it ie quite true tht-.t an accidont happened to Taiaroa which will prevent, his playing for Otogo in the infccrproYinoial match on Saturday. One of the papers calls it " a Blight mishap" only, but the other says ho broke his coll«r-bone. A. Allan took hia place in the team, and if W. Allan, the other quarterback, csnnot leave, the vaoancy will be filled by A. Borrows. The trial fifteen (not bo good a one as that finally picked) defeated a strong twenty-two on Saturday by two goals and two trios to nothing. The point most commended in their play seems to have been the fine passing of the forwards, who kept the ball over on the move, bo that our men know what they have got to expect — a particularly fast game, which will find out the weak pornts in their condition as well as their play. The Press Association telegraphe from Dunedin:— "The team iz considered one of tbe strongest that ever took the field to represent Olago. Taiaroa'i absence, owing to a broken collar bone, is greatly regretted, but he will go north to witness tbe games." From Wellington we hear:— "Tho following have been selected to represent Wellington in tho approaching football tournament : — Brown, Campbell, Cooper, Davy, Dumbell, Harvey, Kicg, H.Roberts, H. 0. Roberts, Bonaldson, J. H. Smith, A. 2 homeon, Udy, Webb and Wood ; emergencies—Perry, Pauling, Moore (baoks), Olifford, J. Holmee, and Young (forwards). At a meeting of the Reception Committee to-night, it was decided to entertain the visiting footballera at a ball and dinner. Messrs Kohn and Co., jewellers, havo intimated their intention of giving a handsome cup to the winning team."
