THE DOCK CAISSON.
An Unfortunate Accident.
The water was let in to the Graving Dock this morning, for the purpose of testing the oaisson. Unfortunately a mishap occurred, whioh, though not of a serious nature, has caused a certain amonnt of delay and expense to the contractor for the ereetion of the caisson, on whom the responsibility rests of plaoing it in position. When the water had flowed into the dock sufficiently to lift the caisson, she canted on one of the bilge blocks, and the iron ballast shifting, the caisson gradually heeled over until sho was lying on her side in the water. Fortunately the oaisson did not touch the masonry of the dook in any way, and so is uninjured. The contractor was busy endeavouring to right the oaisson during the morning, but his gear carried away, and he had not succeeded in doing so up to the time of our express leaving port. The opinion of some is that thoro was not suffioient ballast in the caisson to keep her upright. _
