+ [Pbb Pbbss Abbooiation.] A Brewery Burned Down. Another Sewing Machine Case. The Minister for Public Works — Alarm of the Harbour Trust. DUNEDIN, Not. 17. Burke's Brewery was totally burned down this morning. Tho building and plant were insured for £500 in each of the following oflices : — Hamburg • Magdeburg, Scottish Imperial, Australian Alliance, South British, New Zealand, Colonial, and United. The plaoe, owned by Da'getj* and Co., was leased by Riohard Whittingham, maister, whose stook was uninsured. Ho loses about £400. The origin of the firo is unknown, but was probably occasioned by sparks from a passing train. At the City Police Court, Elizabeth Tattersall, oharged with larceny as a bailee, appoarod. Sho hired a sewing maohino from ono of tho dep6ts, paying half-a-orown instalment, and at onoo pawned it. The caae waa brought aa a test one. The Benoh sentenced her to a month's imprisonment. Several deputations waited on tho Minister for Worka to-day. Ho gavo them satisfactory assurances of the intention of tho Governmont to proceed- with tho Otago central railway, but oaused great consternation by informing * members of the Dock Trust that tho whole of ' the Lower Harbour Beserve, whioh the Trust j looked on as their endowment, had been ' already proclaimed ai reserved for railway j purposes. j
