The Budget speech, as delivered by the Treasurer last night, was considered highly satisfactory. It furnished ample evidence of tho continued prosperity of the Colony. Amongst the items provided for is £150,000 for immigration. It is the intention of the Government to introduce a Bill to authorise the conversion of debentures into inscribed stook. There is nothing furthor in reference to the foundering of the collier Winiora. The number of lives lost is believed to be 17. The weather appeared favourable when the vessel left Bulli, so that the captain was not considered to blame. The turvivor, .Lenrch Fredericson, had a wonderful eßcape. After the vessel disappeared he managed to seize a plank, and kept himself afloat until he cot hold of ooe of the boats. He succeeded in righting the boat. Placing the plank acroes it, and lashing it with a rope he found in tho boat, he made a sort of outrigger. An oar floated by, which he secured, and he then steered his way into Botany Bay, where he arrived much exhausted. The Winiora was insured for £7000 in the Australian Alliance Company. At the opening of tho new cattle yards yesterday it was stated that during the last four months Byd noy had been depending upon Queensland for its meat supply. The late rains have been most beneficial, something like four inches having fallen. The Assembly adjourned, m a, mark of respect for Mr Forester, and the Premier eulogised the deceased member. There are poveral candidates fcr the vacant seat. Übisbanb. The Assembly has voted a qnartor of a million for immigration, and also £70,000 for dofoncoH, includiug two gunboats, having one 25-ton gun, two thirteen poundors, and one Nordenfeldt gun. The Bpring Meeting of the National Agricultural Society, which opened on Wednesday, is not;, in regard to number and quality of exhibits, in advance of former years. Proceedings have been instituted against Joremiah Bol&n, ft well-known sweep promoter. Four detectives attended the drawing and seized the whole of the puraphornalia. Cottimodora Krekine and the oflicors of the Nelson and Miranda wvro entertained by Lor ; Henry Phipps at the Melbourne Club as tho representative of the Governor. A 7 ELAIDR. Tho reproaer.tutiro of tho All-England Eleven has asked the Association to play eleven men instead of fifteen, the Englishmen having no time to practice ; but tlio Aesociution declined to alter the arrangements.
