THE S.S. WESTPORT.
The s.s. Westport arrived in port at 11.30 a.m. -to-dsy from Akaroa, having left theio at 6 a.m. Captain Dunsford, Surveyor for the Underwriters' A-sociition, returned -with the steamer. Aftor being flo-tad yesterd.y afternoon another lea- was discovered in the main hold, which was stopped as well as possible, aod bo trouble what-- ver was experienced in keeping the water down in the hold after the vessel -floated and while pho was -nnder weigh, the engine and pump pent down doing the work splendidly. Ihe whole of tho damage to the -steamer is confined to tho forward part of the vessel, there not being the slightest indication of any damige aft of the bulkhead .dividing the raaiu hold and the engine room. The energy displayed by Captain (libb in getting the steamer tif the rooks as he did and into Akaroa is Jughly commented on. as had the remained where she went ashore many hours longer she would have fcecome a total wreck, the sea making into the bay very heavily and rapidly after she got away.
