Tbe Hanapoari is rigged as a two-mn_ve<i sch-x-ner, lower masts steel, and was launched on De a. 20 inst irom the _evern Shipbuilding Ya-da. Dumbarton, and was built, by Messrs W. iJonuy and Bros, nnder thn supervi-ic-n ©f the Union Cviapaay'j superintending en-jins-ir, Mr J. The sbip 13 fitted with very powertul steaai winobe- at ei«h*?r hatch, and steam ia utilised for saving labour wherever -pOB-ible. One gi cat feature ia the Manapouri is Iter lighting, 170 of Swarm's incandescent lights being fitted in different parts Of the ship, in addition to a number of aro lights for use in working cargo, tho wh-tlo of wh ; ch can cc illuminated and extinguished .-imultaneonsiy . These lights are maintained by two , -machine-*, one a Siemens hydrodynamio, and ttb other a Siemens alternating ijurrent maohine, both of which are driven by a Brotherhood engine, making 750 ro volution 3 per -minute. Tbe light is beautifully .sot and pleaaiuc, and is enclosed in handsome silver.pla'ed iami»3, tiie- shades of which each bear the Company's fl.g and name. The sse&m^r is also fitted with oil Tampa, for use in case of any -a-iahap in tha electrio .lighting. Each cabin has an electric light, and in addition, an ordinary candle lamp.
