FOOTBALL.

The match on Saturday, played on the Show Grounds between a fifteen and a twenty-two, resulted, after some even play, in a draw, neither side scoring anything except a force down or two. The game needs very little description being of the usual kind, though from some cause or other the red (fifteen) forwards while playing h»rd were all abroad during the greater part of the game, and did not at all oome up to their form on the preceding Saturday. It is to be hoped that thia will be altered next Saturday, as the strength of Canterbury has hitherto been found in the excellent play of tho forwards. The back play of Anderson, Helmore, Farr and Lee was all that could be desired, and augurs well for Canterbury's chance of success.

Immediately after the match the Selection Committee met, and ehoae tho following team to roproaent Canterbury : — Messrs A. H. Anderson Messrs J. F. Harfcland C. Bolton G.Helmore A. T. Chapman L. Lane E. J. Cottorill H. Leo 0. B. Dobson W. V. Millton H. F. fcarr W. Potts H. B. Farr P. Talbot JR. P. Harinan Emergencies, W. J. Cotfccrill, M. Lewin, and

H. Spragge. A meeting of the team is to be held at the Clarendon Hotel at half-past 7 on Tuesday evening, when it ia requested that every membor will attend, as there will bs a good deal to arrange besides electing a Captain. Players are also strongly advised to assemble early in tho morning on Craumer Square, for exercise, this week ; and also to attend regularly in the afternoon as soon after 4 p.m. as possible. The attention of tho full-backs to the above advice ia requested.
