Wheat and Flour.

A further rise of Is has occurred in Australian and New Zealand wheat. Adelaide, ex warehouse, is quoted at 53a ; New Zealand, ex ship, at 52s 6d. Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, baa advanced to 38s 6d.

Markets.

Consols have declined i, and are today quoted at 100j. New Zealand securities are unchanged, viz. : — 5 per cent 10-40 loan, 105 ; 5 per cent 1889 loan, 104£; 4& per cent 1879-1904 loan, 101|. Australian tallow is without quotable change ; best beef per cwt, 34s 6d ; best mutton, 36s 6d. Large withdrawals of gold are being made for North America. The sum of £205,000 has been taken from the Bank of England. August 18. Shipping Casualty. The barque Barunga, 1030 tons, which left Port Pirie, South Australia, for London on April 3, went ashore on the French coast, near Calais, yesterday. Part of her cargo of wheat was thrown overboard, and she then floated off. The damage is said not to be serious. The Coercion Act. In the House of Commons to-day, after two days' debate, a motion, introduced by Mr Parnell, censuring Government for the manner in which the Irish Coercion Act has been administered, was rejected by a considerable majority. In the course of the debate, Mr W. E. Forster, Irish Secretary, and Mr Gladstone, definitely stated thei refusal to agree to the demands of Mr Parnell that suspected persons, who were now in custody in Ireland, should be immediately released.

Intelligence is to hand from the Mauritius reporting that the ship England's Glory, which left London on May 7, for Nelson, has put into Port Louis for repairs, and to re-stow her cargo, part of which, had to be thrown overboard at sea.

E. J. Agg, accountant of the Lands Department, who was arrested on August 12 on a charge of forgery, and subsequently liberated on bail, has been re-arrested on suspicion of an attempt to abscond.
