LONDON, Dec. 10. Money. The Bank rate of discount has been raised to 3 per cent. The market rate remains at 2 per cent. Another Catastrophe. A terrible colliery explosion occurred to-day at Prygraig, whicb has resulted in the death of over 90 miners, who were in the pit at the time of the explosion. A Climax Approaching. News is to hand from South America that the Chilians in large force have landed at Pisca, on the Peruvian coast, and are rapidly advancing on Lima, the capital. Wheat Afloat. The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdomis 235,000 quarters. Wool. At the wool sales to-day, 5600 bales were offered, making a total of 102,200 bales catalogued since tlie opening. The tone of the sale was firm. Dec. 11. Kauri gum B£d. The wool auction closed to-day, 1190 bales being offered, making a total of 114,100 catalogued since the opening. The tone of the sales showed a better demand for most descriptions. There was a good attendance of home buyers ; but the number of foreign buyers was small. There was a fair competition for inferior to common qualities — Crossbreda are Id to 2d lower than last sales. Another Waste. The Geographical Society are projecting a scheme for another Arctic expedition. ATHENS, Dec. 11. Going On. The Greek Government has voted a new loan for war purposes. MELBOURNE, Dec. 12. Our Beery Triumphs. The following Exhibition awards have been made — For bulk ale, first prizes, Speight, Dunedin ; Franks, Hokitika ; Ward and Co., Christchurch ; second prizes, Pascoe, Wellington; Cochrane, Dunedin ; Speight, Dunedin ; Baynes, Wangaratta; third prizes, Strachan, Dunedin ; fourth, Manning, Christch>m-ch. For porter in bulk — First prizes, Vincent, Christchurch; Ehrenfried, Dunedin. For bottled porter — First prize, Hargan, Dunedin; second, Manning, Christchurch ; Baynes, Wangaratta. Dec. 11. A Good Game Yet. The cricket match between the Australian Eleven and Victorian Representative Eleven was resumed to-day. The former continued their innings, and were all disposed of for 291 runs. Bannerman was run out for 58, Bonnor stumped for 50, Spofforth caught for 38, and Boyle caught for 55. The Victorian team then went to the wickets for their second innings, and when stumps were drawn for the day had lost four wickets for 167 runs. Getting Sick. The entries for the races on New Tear's Day are generally small. For the Champion Stakes there are 49 subscribers.
