SOCIETIES.
A.O.D. — A meeting of those interested in forming a lodgo in the district was held at Gaynor's Hotel, Amberley, on Saturday evening. Mr Easterbrook was voted to tho chair. Tho Chairman stated that tho meeting had adjourned until that night iv order to get the full complement of names necessary to form a lodge. He said that 28 had "signified their intention of joining. Considerable discussion took place on the appointment of a medical officer, but ultimately tho matter was deferred. Tho requisite number of names having been obtained, the Hopo of Amberley Lodge will bo duly opened Bhortly.
The Druids.— The luual fortnightly moeting of tho Pioneer Lodge was held at their Lodgo room, Wellington Hotel, last evening. Thero was a very large attendance. Official visits were received from tho Ethclbort, Star of Anglcsea, and Hopo of Sfc Albans Lodgo. A brother was admitted by clearance from the Hopo of St Albans Lodge. Four members wero initiated, and four woro proposed. A circular was received from tho Secretary of tho Friondly Socictios'Futo Committee. Fivo delegates were appointod. Bro J. B. Harris resigned his ofllco as Y.A.B. Tho election of another to his place was deferred until next meeting. D.P. Bro Swinnerton slated that ho had received an application for a dispensation for a Lodge at Amberley, to be called "Tho Star of Amberley." After some other business had been transacted, tho Lodgo wa*3 olosed in duo form.
Benkvoi.kxt Association. — A meeting of the Committee of thia Association was to have been held at the Dcp6t at o p.m. yesterday, but at twenty minutes, past 3 the only members present wero Messrs Mitchell and J. A. Bird, consequently tho meeting lapsed. The carotukcr'a report elated thai lie had
closed the soup kitchen, and had had all tho requisites pufc in good order. Ho suggested that somo of the articles of the stock might bo disposed of. George Archor, the cook, was_ not discharged until Saturday last, having boen retained to assis!, the carter to load and discharge tho potatoes received during tho week, as the men sent by Mr March wero receiving medical treatment at tho Hospital, and refused to do any heavy lifting. The donations received during the week had been— lo2 sacks of potatoes from Mr G. Collier, and half a; ton of Hour from Mr W. D. Wood. Monday was the only dav on which soup had been delivered, and thanks wore due to Mr Culliford for supplying stock meat. Tho relief given during the week amounted to 13 bags of potatoos, 2001 b of flour, 2 pairs of boots, 4. yards of flannel, and 3 tins of proaervod kidneys. The oases relieved were— first relief, 3;. second ditto, 1 ; third ditto, 2 ; fourth ditto, 2 ; fifth ditto, 1 ; sixth ditto, 2 ; seventh ditto, 1 ; eighth ditto, 1 ; total, 13. No money had been received during the week.
