KAIAPOI.

The English church at Kaiapoi was, as usual, most beautifully decorated for Christmas day with flowors and illuminated texts. The whole of tho decorations were done by tho ladiosof the parish, assisted by tho curato in charge, tho Bey D. O. Hampton, and, without doubt, they reflected very great credit on the designers. The only decorations, with one or two exceptions, were composed of white flowers and greenery and richly illuminated texts. The general effect was very good indeed, and showed great tasle both as to form and colour. At the east end of the chancel over the Communion table was a most; beautiful floral cross, composed entirely of white lilies and a few green leaves. This was surmounted by two other floral crosses having a crimson ribband on which were the words, "Peaceon earth, goodwill towards men," while large bouquets of flowers wero taßtcfully arranged round the communion-table. Various t^xta appeared in other portions of the Church. The work of decorating tho chancel was, wo believe, chiefly performed by Mrs C. 0. Howard, and certainly did her infinite credit. The font was also a most artistic piece of decoration, being filled with a magnificent bouquet of wliilo lilies, and; Canterbury bells, whilo up tho fluted pedestal, green wreaths and tondrils vero gracefully twinod, tho general effect being particulary elegant and graceful. Tho windows, seats, and reading desks woro all handsomely decorated with lilies and grcenory. The Church was far better decorated this year than it has ever been before, and shows that at any rate the ladio3 take a good deal of

interest, in . Church matters in.Eaiapoi.-* The jeryice was conducted by the Rev D. O. Hampton, and was semi-choral, but, owing to a defect in the organ, was not bo succeeaf ul as usual.
