COMPROMISE SUGGESTED BY GOVERNMENT I AND RBFUSKD BY BOARD. I

In consequence of tlio resolution for fcho I cancellation of tho appointment of the staff, I the members of the staff hold a meeting, and I communicated with the Government. As a I result of that action on tho part of the staff, V tho Hospital Board held a moeting at the I office of Mr J. E. Brown. Feb. 22, 1879. "13. Tho Chairman, said that tho meeting had been hurriedly called, and ho thought it much nearer than the Hospital. " Dr Turnbull objected to a hole-and-corner meeting of this kind." The following telegram from the Hon G. S. Whitmore was read : — " Urgent. Have received from medical staff letter requesting me not to go back from my offer to rc-appoint them till end. of year, with which professed themselves satisfied. Having regard to late resolution of Board, j and not wishing to bo discourteous to staff, } propose rc-appointment for six months only. | Meanwhilo, about Juno, Board could advertiso for applications to form new Board (staff) ? to take effect from first September. Please consult your colleagues. I will be obliged by this compromise. Mr Brown movod—" That the Board renew ' its recommendation advising tho Government rto cancel the appointment of the Medical Staff, with a view to the Board inviting offers • of attendance from duly qualified men resi- • dent in Ohristohuroh."
