+ A.J.C. SPRING MEETING. The spring meeting of the Australian Jockey Club commenced on Saturday, August 30, on the course at Rand wick. The weather was fine nnd warm, and there was a large attendance, numbering 10,000 poraons. His Excellency Lord A. Loftus was present. The race programme opened with a Hurdle Race, for which there wero 11 starters. Whalebone won easily by at least three lengths from Veno, who carried nearly two Btone more weight. In the Trial Stakes the three-year-old colt Lowland er won a good race by half a length, beating a fair field. There were seven starters for the Derby, and Falmouth continued a strong favourite up to the last moment. The race was well contested, and in the run home there was a good deal of excitement, Nellie only winning by three-quarters of a length, whilo His Grace and Falmouth had a dead Leat for second place. Theee three were the only horses in the raoe at the finish. Chester won the Spring Stokes easily, beating his two competitors, the third horse being in the same stable. Sweetmeat was the winner of the Epsom Handicap by a length in front of Lord Burghley. Huudlb Race, a handicap sweepstakes of 5 soys each, with 100 soys added. Second horse 20 soys from fche prize. Passing up the hill Nellie ran into second place, a length from Falmouth ; then came Gainsborough and Adventurer. Falmouth led into the straight, followed by Nellie and His Grace, and there was exciting race home, Nellie winning by three-quarters ot o length, His Grace and Falmouth running a dead heat for Becond place ; then followed Gipsey Cooper, and next, a long way behind, Cnesterfield, Adventurer, and Gainsborough.
