FOOTBALL.
♦ The last match of the Interprovincial series will be played this afternoon between Canterbury and Wellington in Mr Anderson's paddock, Birbadoes street. The ground is now in much, better condition, and will be rolled early this morning so as to evel it as much as posßiblo after the cutting ip it roceired on Monday. Since the unexjccted defeat of the Dunedin team by the Wellington men a good deal of interest has )een excited in the present match, and the Canterbury team has been considerably itrengthened in anticipation of a hard struggle. Tho names were published yesterday. A. dinner will be given at half -past 7 this evenngattheCommercialHotel, towhich the members of the visiting teams will be invited. A limited number of ticketg for the dinner can be procured from the Secretary to the Union on the ground to-day.— The return match between East Christchurch and Normal Bchool was played on Wednesday, and resulted in a victory for the former by a goal, kicked by E. Francis, and two touchdowns, obtained by Willstead and E. Wagner to nil. The victors all played well, especially E. and A.. Wagner, Atkinson, E. Francis, and H. riper. For the Normal, England, Blanohard, Jinnoy, Bowman, Slater, and Gapes were noticeable.
