THE HILL BENEFIT FUND,

A cheque for tho proceeds of tho lato entertainments held in the Oddfellows' Hall for tho benefit of the widow and family of the lato Mr Walter Hill, was handed to Mrs Hill this afternoon by his Worship the Mayor and the officers of tho Committee. The Mayor read the following letter from the hon. treasurer of the Committee : — " Mrs Walter Hill, "Dear Madam, — I have the honour by direction of the Committee to hand you the enclosed cheque for £86 10s being the miserable proceeds of two entertainments called benefits. I need not add that it pains me greatly — as it does many of my friendß en the Committee — to bo the means of handing you so insignificant a sum as an evidonco of the esteem we had for your late husband. In those days of impecuniosity words, I fear, mußt be accepted. "With the moßt sincere good wishes for your future welfare. " I am, Sus., "J. Ollivieh, " Treasurer to Committee. •
