MAGISTERIAL.
' CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. (Before G. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.) Attempted Suicide. — Elizabeth Dawe was charged with having, on the previous day, attempted to commit suicide by throwing herself into fcho river. Tho particulars have already been published in our columns, and evidence having been given in accordance therewith, a friend of the accused offered to take charge of her for a time. His Worship suitably admonished the accused and discharged her.
Dbunkbnness.— Robort Gibson was fined Ss, and a first offender was fined in a like sum, and ordered to pay cost of cab, Is. Illegal Conduct.— Joseph Morell was oharged with behaving towards his wife, who had obtained a protection order against him, in a manner calculated to provoko a breach of the peaeo. As accused did nofc appear in answer to the summons, a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Civil Cases. — Under the provisions of tho Resident Magistrate's Act, 1870, evidence was taken at the Police Court this morning in connection with a Hokitika" case, John Ellis, of Arahura, being the plaintiff'and Alexander Meharry, of Dunsandel, tho -defondant. Thb evidence taken was fchat of the defendant.
