He says: — " The victim in this instance is nofc an official of fche Russian bureaucratic world, but is Buffi-? ciently well known in the sooial circle of the South Russian ' metropolis as to render the crime provocative of considerable comment, not to say indignation and alarm. A young nobleman named Bairaschewski was seated at home in his salon entertaining a few intimate friends. . •&}» the midst; of a lively conversation* : the door suddenly opened, and ; _tfcfafere'* entered a young lady named Prasko^ia Kafcschka, about 19 years of age, handsome and prepossessing, a member, moreover, of a well known and ; noble family in tho Wilna district. Perfectly 7 calm and self-pos-sessed, sho gracefully saluted the vwitors present in the chamber. Then, drawing a revolver .from her pocket, she deliberately shot BairaschewsH through the I head, so that he 'fell to the ground dead instantaneously. So rapidly and coolly was the deed committed, that all was over before anyone in tho . saloon attempted to *int'drpose. Praskpwia made no attempt to escape, and permitted herBelf to be arrested without; fche slightest resistance. Sho declines to make any statements whatever respecting tho aseasqioation and her reasons for-, tho commission of the crime, but acknowledges that she had been acquainted with the murdered young man lor more than a year, and that, tho' deed was perpetrated designedly, after ample premeditation, and wifch a full knowledge of the consequences to herself. Ifc is a notoworthy fact in connection with bofch tho actors in' this tragedy that Praskowia and Bairaschowßki como from the district of Wilria, and belong to families originally of Tartar descent (ennobled by the kings of Poland), who have resided in that part for many , generations.
