The French war vessel Arrogante foundered during a heavy gale and forty-seven lives were lost.
Lord Chelmsford, writing to the Secretary of State for the Colonies on Feb. 9, requested to be superseded in his command of the British forces at Natal. The Governor, in an accompanying dispatch, says he concurs in Lord Cheluisford's request, and points out the necessity of an oflicer being selected fitted to succeed him. Tho Secretary for the Colonies replying on March 19 jensures the policy of the Governor, nit says that the Government haa no lesire to withdraw their confidence in the present crisis. He adds that the Government will decide upon the peace conditions with Cetewayo, but they aro ndisposed to sanction the annexation of ;he Zulu country.
