KAIAPOI SCHOOL COMMIMTEE.

A special meeting of this ConiraiJjte& was held at tho- School Office, Hilton street, Kaiapoi, on Friday, last ; present— Messrs Johnßton (in the chair), Coup, ,Pashby, Youngr, Bevell,iand Par'nham.

A letter was read from the Bdii'd of Education, stating fchat £8 12s 6cl had been, paid into the bank to the credit of the Committee for repairs to the school:, .as per accounts forwarded to the Board. Applications were then considered for the situation, of assistant mastei' from H. J. M'Oture and J. Grant.

Mr C. Young proposed that Mr --Grant be recommended tothe Board of Education for the situation of assistant master. Seconded by Mr Pashby.

After nearly trwo- hours' discrasion; about re-organising the- staff of teachers, and on tho question of- making the school a raised one or otherwise, the motion was withdrawn,. Messrs Parnham and Eevell voting agaiH3fc th& withdrawaL,..

Mi- Pashby then proposed that-. the -Boai-d be requested to re-arrange the saJarios- paid to the teachers by. reducing the head* master's salary-, £100, and dividing that amount betwsen the- second master and assistant mistress, thus, making the assistant masters's £150. and the assistant mistress I '■' £65. Mr Coup .seconded the motion.

Mr Parnham. thought that ib was noi fair to mais the salary of the head master who was responsible for the management of tb& school, orly .£SO >per annum better than that of the seoond. master; he was decidedly, against the mention.

Mr EevolL was also of tlie^ sain© opinion, asd quoted statistics showing, that it was bad policy to reduce the salary ofca head master. Mr Parnham moved, as. an amendment, fcliat the question of readjusting the salaries \ba, left till after a public meeting csf householders.

The Secretary was instructed to apply to the Board fox- some certificate forias for regular attendance, under clause 79. There being no other business, tho .meeting adjourned.
